  4. The main character of "Doctor Who" has been referred to by several different 
  5. labels. These include:
  6.  
  7. 1) Theta Sigma, used by Drax on the Planet of the Shadow (The Armageddon 
  8.    Factor). This is supposedly an old school name. It was used again in The 
  9.    Happiness Patrol.
  10.  
  11. 2) Doctor Who, has been used in a couple episodes, most notably The War 
  12.    Machines were WOTAN is calling for "Doctor Who". The role was credited as 
  13.    "Doctor Who" until Castrovalva, where the name changed to:

  15. 3) The Doctor. This seems to be what he is called most often.
  16.  
  17. 4) Doctor van Wer, was used in The Highlanders.
  18.  
  19. 5) In Colony in Space, a name was presented, but was unreadable, on a 
  20.    Gallifreyan computer.
  21.  
  22. 6) Doctor Caligari was used in The Gunfighters.
  23.  
  24. 7) Doctor Foreman was hinted at in An Unearthly Child.
  25.  
  26. 8) Doctor John Smith was the alias the Doctor used while he was UNIT's
  27.    unpaid scientific advisor. He also used this in The War Games.
  28.  
  29. 9) In The Trial of a Time Lord, one section of the matrix had the Doctor 
  30.    almost saying his name while on Earth. He never finishes the sentence.
  31.  
  32. 10) In Remembrance of the Daleks, a calling card was produced by the Doctor 
  33.     that may or may not have had his name.
  34.  
  35. 11) Ace usually calls him Professor.
  36.  
  37. 12) The book 'The Making of Doctor Who' by Terrence Dicks and Malcolm Hulke 
  38.     gives a mathematical looking symbol containing sigma.
